Marcus Stone (British painter) 1840 - 1921

Marcus Stone studied under his father Frank Stone and became a historical genre painter and illustrator. He was apprenticed to William Powell Frith RA and made for him versions of his more famous paintings such as The Railway Station. From 1858 he exhibited at the Royal Academy. In his own day his pictures were much admired and fetched high prices and can today be found in many English museums.
