Carla Maria Maggi (Italian painter) 1913 - 2004
The artistic career of Carla Maria Maggi lasted only a few years. A pupil of Giuseppe Palanti, her talent for drawing was discovered when she was an adolescent. She began to exhibit in her twenties and was appreciated as a portrait painter. However in 1940, three years after her wedding, Carla decided (or maybe was forced?) to abandon painting, dedicating herself to the family. She was only 27 years old! Her works got forgotten, and she never again spoke of her past as a painter. Carla’s works were ‘discovered’ accidentally by her son in 1997, who started to show them to the world. Since then a number of scholars have been interested in her painting.
