Edward Atkinson Hornel (British painter) 1864 - 1933
Hornel was born in Bacchus Marsh, Victoria, Australia. Shortly after he was born his parents left for Kirkcudbright in Scotland, where he remained for most of his life. He was associated with the Glasgow Boys and was strongly influenced by Japanese art, spending eighteen months in the country in 1894-95. He is noted for his flat tapestry-like paintings in jewelled colours, depicting girls in gardens and woodlands.
